Clematis Broughton Star, unusual semi-double to fully double cup-shaped flowers, 4-7cm (1½-2¾) across. Deep dusky pink tepals with dark veins. Interesting trifoliate leaves, deeply serrated, bronze when young, dark green when mature. Prefers a sunny position.

The key to good Clematis is in the planting. If possible try and keep the roots in the shade as they prefer a cool root run. If not cover soil with tiles or stones to keep roots cool. Water thoroughly or stand the pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting, this will ensure the rootball is well saturated. Dig a hole to a depth of 45-60cm (18-24”) x 45cm (18”). Fork the bottom and sides to ensure that it is free draining. Add a layer approx. 23cm (9”) of well rotted manure or garden compost. Mix peat and bone meal with top soil, and back fill approx. 2cm (1”). Remove pot, stand plant in hole making sure that the top of the rootball is 7-15cm (3-6”) below the soil level, this promotes growth and protects against disease. Put the remaining soil around the rootball, firming down to avoid air spaces, water in with a systemic fungicide. Do not allow to dry out for at least the first growing season.
Clematis Warwickshire Rose, masses of deep pink, fragrant, on an unusual dark burgundy foliage. On a warm day the flowers give of a sort of chocolate fragrance.

Please don’t panic if a plant looks different to the image on the Website. It is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just ‘resting’ before it bursts into action in the coming season.
Plants do look very different throughout the year. Particularly in winter, many shrubs will look rather bare and stick-like and perennial plants may not even be showing through the soil.
