Prepare for your Garden Guests
There's little shortage of natural foods on offer in the countryside at the moment, but nevertheless it's still vital to
remember how the gardener can help wildlife at this time of year. It's a good time to think ahead to the coming winter
and ensure there's going to be plenty of food and shelter available when our garden guests come calling.
Out with the Old and in With the New
We gardeners are never normally known as being particularly ruthless. This point is always more apparent at this time of
year, when so many sorry-looking summer bedding plants can be seen clinging on for dear life, yet no matter how tired and
forlorn they may be, we just can't bring ourselves to replace them.
Conifers aren't just for Christmas!
1st October sees the start of National Conifer Week and here at Notcutts we'll be highlighting the beauty of these
wonderful garden plants. Their heyday may have passed a few years ago, but ignore Conifers at your peril as they still
remain one of the most valuable group of plants and I don't just mean at Christmas!
Keep a Step Ahead in September
Now it really feels like autumn I've noticed a resurgence of activity in people's garden following the lazier days of
summer. Some of us will still be busy harvesting the fruits of our earlier labours but it's also time to prepare the
garden for the weeks, months and even years ahead.
