Contorted Willow. A fast growing shrub which will eventually make a medium sized tree unless pruned hard every few years! Young shoots are orangey brown and twisted like cork screws. The pale green leaves are also contorted and the whole effect is very unusual. An easy, fast growing plant which is at home in sun or shade and any soil type. Willows love wet soil, so this is an ideal plant for a pond edge, where the twisted branches will reflect in the water on sunny, winter days. A good plant for flower arrangers and an important food plant for pollinating insects in early spring when the fluffy white catkins appear.
Please dont panic if a plant looks different to the image on the Website. It is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just resting before it bursts into action in the coming season.
Plants do look very different throughout the year. Particularly in winter, many shrubs will look rather bare and stick-like and perennial plants may not even be showing through the soil.
