Notcutts Hardy Gladioli Byzantinus

Gladioli ‘Byzantinus’ is an uncommon and easy-to-grow hardy variety that delivers a terrific display in the summer border. It produces lavish amounts of elegant, funnel-shaped flowers in rich purplish red, held on firm, weather-resistant stems. Growing to about 60–90 cm / 2–3 feet tall, this striking Gladioli thrives in a sunny location and blooms from early to mid-summer. Its graceful form and vivid colour make it splendid both in garden displays and in floral arrangements.

Planting: Plant hardy Gladioli corms in spring or fall in a sunny, well-drained location. They can also be naturalized in borders or meadow-style plantings. Plant corms at the recommended depth and spacing, then water well after planting to encourage strong root development.

Plant Care: Water regularly during active growth, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Due to their firm stems, staking is rarely needed. Remove spent flowers to keep plants tidy. Hardy Gladioli can often be left in the ground over winter in well-drained soil; in colder or wetter climates, a light mulch can provide added protection.
