A perennial evergreen shrub with fragrant leaves which can be picked at any time and used in flavouring meat or fish dishes, also for bouquet garnish.
In Mar-May sow thinly direct into finely raked, moist, warm soil at a depth of about 13mm (1/2"). Germination takes 10-21 days. Thin seedlings to 38cm (15") between plants. Can also be sown late Feb-Mar in a propagator on a windowsill at approx. 15-20C (60-68F). Transplant seedlings into 15cm (6") pots or direct outside. Grows best in well cultivated soil in a sunny position. To dry sage for winter use, hang stems in an airy shed or garage; when dry rub finely. Store in airtight containers.
