Annual with larger leaves than Bush Basil. A widely used herb, especially in cooked tomato dishes.

Sow in a propagator on a windowsill or thinly in pots or trays in a greenhouse at approx. 10-15C (50-60F) using a good quality compost. Cover seeds with 6mm (1/4") sieved compost. Grow on, planting out when frost risk has passed 23cm (9") apart. Germination 14-21 days. Can also be sown thinly direct outside at a depth of about 6mm (1/4"). Grows best in well drained soil in a sunny position. Do not allow plants to flower if leaves used for cooking.
