Hydrangea Macrophylla 'Runaway Bride' - 3.5L

Hydrangea Macrophylla 'Runaway Bride' is a truly unique Hydrangea, celebrated for its graceful, arching stems that produce masses of pure white lacecap blooms from every leaf joint. Flowering from late spring to autumn, it offers a cascading effect perfect for borders. 

Runaway bride flowers profusely in early summer - not only at the shoot tips like other common hydrangeas, but also from every single side bud! Given the elegant growth habit, she is spectacular in taller containers on the balcony or terrace, but is also an excellent choice as a hardy shrub for garden beds. She prefers rich compost, regular watering and fertiliser applications and does well in partial shade to full sun.

Pruning is not necessary - if unpruned, she will reach a height of 60-80cm and 1 metre in diameter. If she gets too large, pruning can take place immediately after the full flush of flowers.

Planting guide:

Choose a spot with partial shade – morning sun and afternoon shade is ideal. Avoid hot, dry areas. Hydrangea Macrophylla prefers moist, well-drained soil, rich in organic matter. Best planted in spring or autumn when the soil is warm and moist.

• Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball.
• Gently loosen the roots and place the plant in the hole.
• Fill with a mix of garden soil and compost, then water thoroughly.
• Add mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Growing on:

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially in hot, dry weather – but avoid waterlogging. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. Mulch around the base in late autumn to protect roots. In colder areas, consider covering with fleece during frosts.
