Autumn Champion Onion
Autumn Champion is one of the best-performing onion varieties for autumn planting. It is hardy and reliable, and produces high yields of firm, round onions with a delicious mild flavour. The onions mature from late July and store well until the end of the year.
These onion sets are perfect for home gardeners who want to enjoy fresh, homegrown onions all season long. They are also a good choice for commercial growers who are looking for a high-yielding variety that is resistant to pests and diseases.
‘Autumn Champion’ onions are versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes. They are a good choice for cooking, pickling and grilling. They can also be eaten raw in salads or sandwiches.
To grow Autumn Champion onions, plant the sets in well-drained soil in a sunny location. Add compost or manure before planting and space the sets 4-6 inches apart in rows that are 12-18 inches apart.
Water the onions regularly, especially during the first few weeks after planting. Mulch around the plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
The onions will be ready to harvest in late July or early August. To harvest, pull the onions up and leave them to dry in the sun for a few days. Once the onions are dry, store them in a cool, dry place.
