Gladioli are popular and striking flowering plants known for their tall spikes of colorful blossoms.
Planting: Plant Gladioli in the spring after the last frost. This will give them ample time to grow and bloom during the summer. Choose a location with well-drained soil. Gladioli prefer full sunlight but can tolerate partial shade. These pleants thrive in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Incorporate organic matter, such as compost or well-rotted manure, into the soil to improve fertility. If your soil is heavy or clayey, consider adding sand to enhance drainage. Plant them with the pointed side facing up.
Plant Care: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply when you first plant the corms and then provide regular watering throughout the growing season. Water at the base of the plant to prevent moisture on the leaves, which can lead to diseases. Gladioli can grow tall and may need support to prevent them from falling over. Install stakes at planting time or as the plants grow to provide support. Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage the plant to put energy into producing new blooms.
